It’s pretty obvious that we all know exactly what anger is, and at some point, we’ve all felt it manifest within us – whether as a fleeting annoyance or full-fledged rage. We can tell you that it’s a very normal and mostly healthy human emotion. However, when it get’s out of hand and turns destructive, it can lead to many problems – in personal relationships, at work, and in the overall quality of your life.

​What Causes Anger?

Anger can be caused through many mechanisms and quite a few situations can trigger emotions of anger including, but not limited to financial issues, stress, family problems and so on.

For some people, anger is caused by some underlying disorder such as depression or alcoholism. Anger itself isn’t considered to be a disorder, but anger is a known symptom of several mental health conditions.

Symptoms

Anger causes a number of physical and emotional symptoms. While its perfect normal to experience these symptoms on occasion, a person with anger issues tends to experience them more frequently and to a much more severe degree.

Physical Symptoms

Anger affects the body in a number of ways, including your brain, hear and muscles. In addition, it causes an increase in testosterone levels and decrease in cortisol levels.

Some of the physical sings and symptoms of anger include, but are not limited to:

  • Muscle tension and tingling sensations
  • Increased heart and blood pressure

Emotional Symptoms

There are also a number of emotions that go hand in hand with anger. You may notice the following emotional symptoms before, during or even after an episode of anger:

  • Stress, rage, guilt, anxiety and frustration
  • feeling overwhelmed and irritability
