The events of a crisis our counselors deal with can vary and include terror attacks, natural disasters, bereavement grief and more. During these times, a counselor can step in to help individuals deal with the situation. Here are several interesting aspect about crisis Counselling that most are surprised to learn of:
Roots Back to 1918
The idea behind our service has been around for a very long time, the modern practice of crisis Counselling , however, is rather new. The roots of this practice date as far back as 1918 during the first world war where soldiers had to deal with what they had witnessed. Prior to this time, many soldiers suffered from various breakdowns and were viewed as disloyal to their country. It was noticed that those who received immediate Counselling fared better than those who received no help at all.
It’s Short Term
Unlike psychotherapy, our crisis Counselling service is usually very brief and depending on circumstances, lasts anywhere from a few weeks to less than three months. The primary ideas behind Counselling service is to assist individuals focus on the stressful issues, take care of their immediate needs, and provide them with then necessary coping skills so they can handle the same or similar situations in the immediate future. Our crisis counselors do not replace long-term therapy. Instead, they help the individual clients deal with the immediate effects of a crisis.
Counsellor Need Strong Ties
Frequently, clients who crisis counselors meet with will be in a state of withdraw or even shock. As a result, they will be an advocate for their clients and ensure those needs are met. Counselors may need to assist their clients apply for social services, find a place to stay, or contact friends or loved ones.
Children Need Different Care
While it come to crisis and trauma intervention for children, you can rest assured that My Caring Counselor has a complete perspective from their viewpoint. Although children and adults respond differently, children tend to act as if they’re in heavy fog, experience stomachaches and headaches, or act out emotionally. Since children don’t quite have the same vocabulary to express their feelings, our counselors use forms of therapy such as play therapy and art to help children identify their thoughts and reframe them.

We work within set boundaries and parameters, how to deal with cultural differences and ethical practices.
